Dialog acquires Adesto to expand industrial IoT portfolio

21 February 2020

Dialog Semiconductor plc has signed an agreement to acquire industrial internet of things (IIoT) chipmaker Adesto Technologies Corp.

The deal, worth about $500 million, will accelerate Dialog’s expansion in the IIoT market for smart buildings and industrial automation.

Dialog said the transaction will allow the companies to create a complementary product portfolio for servicing IIoT sector capabilities for industrial connectivity, smart metering and building automation solutions, many of these sectors are new for Dialog.

Dialog has been seeking to expand its IIoT portfolio for the last few years and acquired Creative Chips last year adding industrial Ethernet and other mixed-signal ICs to its library of products.

Other benefits could come in the wearables, hearables and other IoT application areas by combining Adesto’s low-power memory products with Dialog’s Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Wi-Fi connectivity. Additionally, the deal unlocks future growth in the automotive market using Adesto’s memory products with Dialog’s automotive production and test flow as well as the emerging artificial intelligence market.
