5G Future Forum established to create interoperability standards

16 January 2020

A new global organization has been established to accelerate the delivery of 5G and mobile-edge computing.

The 5G Future Forum will collaborate to create interoperable 5G specifications across key regions including the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe. The forum’s founding members include Mexican telecom América Móvil, Korean telecom KT, Canadian telecom Rogers, Australian telecom Telstra, U.S. telecom Verizon and European telecom Vodafone.

The standards that will be developed by the forum will help enterprises and developers working on 5G-enabled solutions to accelerate their plans. The forum plans to develop public and private marketplaces to enhance developer and customer access to 5G as well as share global best practices in technology deployment.

“5G is a key enabler of the next global industrial revolution, where technology will transform how we live and work. It’s critical that technology partners around the world unite to create the most seamless global experience for our customers,” said Hans Vestberg, chairman and CEO of Verizon.
