The new chip — the MAX22505 — is designed to protect USB ports on commercial and industrial equipment against faulty power supplies and protects devices connected to typical 24 V DC or 24 V AC systems, with a maximum data line protection of ±40.7 V and ground protection of ±50 V.
The VBUS terminal and ground pins can be configured for any level of electrostatic discharge and surge protection using external components. Housed in a 24-pin TQFN package, 4 mm by 4 mm with an exposed pad, the MAX22505 works in a wide -40° to 105° C temperature range.
Some of the main features and specifications of the chip include:
- Thermal shutdown protection
- 3.0 to 5.5 V supply voltage
- Support USB OTG
- Maximum 1 ohm ground to channel resistance
