Storage vendor NGD Systems has introduced a solid state drive (SSD) with what the company claims is the highest available density storage on the market.
The Catalina SSD is shipping now with available capacities up to 24TB with 3D TLC flash in a PCIe edge card form factor. The SSD uses NGD’s elastic flash translation layer (FTL) algorithm and incorporates advanced error correction capabilities for enterprise applications while offering less than 0.65 watts per terabyte in power consumption.

Source: NGD NGD says this watt per terabyte ratio is more efficient than other SSDs currently shipping but also more efficient than hard disk drives (HDDs) targeted at the enterprise market. The SSD is optimized for read intensive applications specifically for use in Content Delivery Networks (CDN), Just a Bunch of Flash (JBOFs) drives and media servers.
While pricing is unavailable for the SSD, a 15TB drive from Samsung was recently released that topped out at $10,000.
