Microsemi Corp. is expanding its line of outdoor power-over-Ethernet (PoE) platform with a switch that allows four powered devices to connect to one network.
The PDS104GO PoE switch delivers 60 watts of power per device over standard Ethernet cabling to outdoor devices such as wireless local-area network access points (WLAN), Internet protocol cameras, point-to-point microwave radio and small cells. The switch is a good fit for outdoor deployments in several industries including education, transportation and government, Microsemi says.
Previously, Microsemi has introduced a PoE switch offering two powered devices and this is the first 4+1 port PoE switch. The PDS104GO comes in a small form factor pluggable (SFP) uplink with extended temperature range (-40 degrees to 50 degrees Celsius), support for 10/10/1000Mbps data rates and integrate surge protection allowing for a switch that is flexible, has a longer network (about an additional 100 meters to a maximum of 200 meters) and features a plug-and-play installation.
Microsemi says the market for outdoor PoE applications is on the rise and as a result these applications need increasingly more power. The estimated serviceable available market (SAM) for PoE applications is about $300 million per year, the company says.
