PEI-Genesis, Inc., a distributor and assembler of precision connectors and cable assemblies, will open a 54,000-square foot production facility in China.
The facility will be fully operational on May 1 and is part of PEI-Genesis' expansion plan to move into new geographic areas.
The facility, located in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai, will use the same proprietary automation, process flow and software used in the company's two facilities in the U.S. and the U.K. It will supply high-mix, low volume configured connectors to the Chinese market, the company said.
"Creating a mirrored facility enables us to better train our Chinese team, and assemble and ship custom connectors in 48 hours, just as we do in the North America and Europe," said Russ Dorwart, PEI-Genesis president and chief operating officer.
Dorwart said China is the fastest growing market in the world for PEI-Genesis' products. "Our suppliers, and our customers, tell us that there is no one in China focused on high-mix, low-volume production, which is our strength," he said.
He added that PEI-Genesis plans to buy production materials, build products and sell them in the Chinese market. "We foresee a powerful partnership with our suppliers and nearly unlimited opportunity for growth in the years ahead," said Dorwat.
The sales team and all operational staff are in place, preparing the factory to service customers. The company's initial focus will be on the rail-mass transit, commercial air, oil and gas, solar and industrial markets.
PEI-Genesis is based in Philadelphia with production facilities in South Bend, Ind., and Southampton, UK.
