Broadcom Launches OpenNSL Platform

12 March 2015

Broadcom Corp. has made available its Open Network Switch Library (OpenNSL), a software interface with a set of APIs that work with Broadcom's StrataXGS switches for enablement of new applications.

The OpenNSL software platform uses APIs that map Broadcom's software development kit to an open north bound interface for switch hardware platforms including network monitoring, load balancing, service chaining, workload optimization and traffic engineering.

Broadcom said it is working with software developers on new network applications for OpenNSL and supports a suite of network monitoring and analytics tools known as Broadview instrumentation. These features are said to allow for flexibility in network equipment design and for meeting infrastructure requirements for StrataXGS switches.
