Corning Acquires Fiber-optic and Copper Vendor

15 December 2014

Corning Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire TR Manufacturing. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TR Manufacturing is a maker of fiber-optic and copper cable interconnects and electro-mechanical assemblies to OEMs. The deal will mesh with Corning’s own product line of connectivity solutions for communications networks. Corning said the acquisition will extend its position as a provider of optical devices for communications.

TR Manufacturing will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Corning, specifically reporting to Corning’s Optical Communications business unit. The deal is expected to be completed at the end of the first quarter of next year.

Clark S. Kinlin, executive VP of Corning optical communications, said in a statement the acquisition will allow the combined company to “better meet customer needs for innovative solutions” as well as “expand Corning’s capabilities to service the growing bandwidth demand of all network operators.”
