TDK Corp. said it will begin manufacturing advanced sensors for various Apple Inc. products to be built in the U.S.
It will be the first time a Japanese company will produce components for Apple in the U.S.
TDK said it has been collaborating with Apple for next-generation sensors for mobile functionality but also on other devices like electronic components and rechargeable batteries.
“Apple is committed to working with suppliers — like TDK — to manufacture even more in the US, and this initiative is another powerful example of how much we can achieve together when we invest in advanced American manufacturing,” said Sabih Khan, COO of Apple.
TDK said it shares Apple’s commitment to do more in the U.S. in terms of manufacturing and this agreement will see both companies’ teams working side-by-side for sensor manufacturing.
