ECIA: Strong electronic component sales sentiment continues in July

According to the July Electronic Component Sales Trends (ECST) survey from the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA), sales sentiment for electronic components remained strong during the month across all product segments and end-markets averaging a score of 121.6 points.

A score of above 100 represents growth in the ECIA report.

The continued strong sale sentiment for electronic components comes after June saw a huge boost in sentiment after two previous limited growth months this year.

Looking ahead to August, the outlook improves over July with an increase in the index score to 127.5 points. If this forecast is realized, it would be the strongest index score since February 2022, ECIA said.

The sale environment for electronic components has experienced score recovery since the summer of 2024 when declines wiped out any early gains from the year, ECIA added.

Robust optimism

One of the categories in July that continues to show robust optimism is the electro-mechanical/connector components segment that lead all categories with a score of 125.9 points, an increase of 11.5 from June.

Semiconductors and passive components dipped slightly from June levels, but both still beat projections from the June survey. In August, semiconductors are projected with a score of 128.

Manufacturer representatives delivered strong sales sentiment in every component category with a 148-point score in July. Meanwhile, manufacturers and distributors delivered average July scores of 109 and 104, respectively.

End markets topped the product category with a score of 129.7 points in July. Every individual end-market came in above the 100-point threshold in July led by industrial and avionics/military/space segments at 139.3 and 136.5 points, respectively.

The August forecast calls for every market except mobile phones to sustain scores above 100.

About the ECIA ECST report

The ECST survey provides highly valuable and detailed visibility on industry expectations in the near-term through the monthly and quarterly surveys. This “immediate” perspective is helpful to participants up and down the electronics components supply chain. In the long-term, ECIA shares in the optimism for the future as the continued introduction and market adoption of exciting innovative technologies should motivate both corporate and consumer demand for next-generation products over the long term.

The complete ECIA ECST report is delivered to all ECIA members as well as others who participate in the survey. All participants in the electronics components supply chain are invited and encouraged to participate in the report so they can see the highly valuable insights provided by the ECST report.

The monthly and quarterly ECST reports present data in detailed tables and figures with multiple perspectives and covering current sales expectations, sales outlooks, product cancellations, product decommits and product lead times. The data is presented at a detailed level for six major electronic component categories, six semiconductor subcategories and eight end markets. Also, survey results are segmented by aggregated responses from manufacturers, distributors and manufacturer representatives.
