Lidar sensor maker Innoviz Technologies Ltd. has introduced a long-range lidar that is compatible with the Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin platform.
The lidar’s compatibility with the edge computing functionalities of Nvidia’s platform is targeted at data processing and real-time decisions in applications like mobility, aerospace, robotics, intelligent traffic management and more.
Nvidia Jetson Orin is expected to simplify the deployment of AI models and accelerate the speed of data processing at the edge, Innoviz said.
Called InnovizSMART long-range, the lidar is a sensor for smart applications with features like:
- Low power consumption
- Uniform yield of view
- 3D point cloud
- Object detection at distances up to 400 meters
"By integrating InnovizSMART into the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin platform, Innoviz is able to offer a powerful combination of high-performance LiDAR with NVIDIA GPU-accelerated edge processing, which is critical for real-time decision-making in smart applications," said Omer Keilaf, CEO and co-founder of Innoviz Technologies. "This collaboration will empower our customers to deploy intelligent, scalable solutions that deliver enhanced safety and efficient operation management across many use cases."
What it could do
When combined, the InnovizSMART sensor and Nvidia Jetson Orin such as mapping surroundings in autonomous vehicles in 3D, detecting vehicles and pedestrians and real-time decisions.
In robotics, lidar could be used for SLAM and obstacle detection, semantic awareness as well as real-time decisions to avoid or interact with objects.
In a smart factory, lidar could be used to scan production lines, detect anomalies or trigger real-time interventions.
