American telecom T-Mobile has launched what it calls a complete, portable 5G private network and services dubbed 5G On Demand to provide 5G networks virtually anywhere.

The solution includes setup, teardown and network management providing the necessary infrastructure to support data-intensive applications involving:

  • Natural disasters
  • Media and entertainment events
  • Oil and gas industries
  • Construction

T-Mobile said that the PGA Championship and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship have already used the solution to enhance connectivity during these high-profile sporting events. The technology combined with Sony’s PDT-FP1 portable data transmitter and ultra-low latency encoders/decoders allow Sony’s FX6 cameras to achieve a glass-to-glass latency of under 100 milliseconds.

Other features include:

  • Reduction of fiber dependency
  • Lower cost private network
  • Support for remote production
  • Enhanced operational efficiency
  • Boosted deployment speed
