Murata’s LCT reduces noise, component count

15 May 2024

Murata Manufacturing Co. Ltd. has introduced an L cancel transformer (LCT) electronic component that allows engineers to reduce system noise, costs and component count.

The electronic component is based on Murata’s ceramic multilayer technology and is designed to neutralize the equivalent series inductance (ESL) of a capacitor.

The LCT electronic component can be used for applications like consumer, industrial and healthcare. Source: Murata Murata said the LCT is a new concept capable of resolving power supply noise and capacitor component count, specifically minimizing noise in the MHz to 1GHz frequency range. The LCT accomplishes this with negative mutual inductance to reduce a noise-reducing capacitor’s ESL and increase the effectiveness of operation. This reduces the number of capacitors needed, Murata added.

The ceramic multilayer technology allows for:

  • Power supply noise reduction
  • Stable negative inductance
  • Low DC resistance

Additionally, the LCT can be used for temperatures up to 125° C due to no DC superposition characteristics. This allows it to be used in a range of applications like consumer, industrial and healthcare.
