Companies jointly debut data center cloud computing for warfighters on the battlefield edge

09 August 2023

Virginia-based Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions has collaborated with California-based Nutanix Inc. to certify the Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) on the PacStar Modular Data Center (MDC) — Curtiss-Wright's COTS rugged data center.

According to the companies, these technologies can host cloud storage, artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics applications to enable warfighters to deploy computing at the edge of tactical networks and set up a secure communications system in the field.

With support from the Nutanix Cloud Platform, a PacStar MDC-NR system can reportedly cluster many PacStar servers to enable shared compute and storage resources to run virtual machines and hypervisor containers.

Further, the PacStar MDC-NR brings the Nutanix hybrid-cloud model to the tactical edge of the battlefield to integrate with cloud providers like Amazon Web Services Inc., Google Support Services LLC, Microsoft Corp. and Oracle.

Additionally, PacStar MDC-NR meets size, weight and power (SWaP) demands for defense, education, energy, first responder and health care organizations.

PacStar MDC-NR enables use of cloud computing on the battlefield for video storage and analytics, intelligence analytics and cyber security.
