Renesas expands AI portfolio with Reality Analytics acquisition

10 June 2022

Renesas Electronic Corp. will acquire Reality Analytics Inc., a move that will expand Renesas’ portfolio of embedded artificial intelligence (AI) products.

The acquisition will provide more flexibility and efficiency for system developers to make products for the so-called AI of things (AIoT).

Renesas said that embedding AI into products is a growing market as workload requirements have evolved. Industrial IoT, consumer, automotive and other embedded applications are demanding more machine learning-based intelligence that require data, low latency and high security.

With this acquisition, Renesas said it will expand its in-house capability to provide comprehensive and highly optimized endpoint solutions from both the hardware and software perspective. Reality Analytics offers a range of embedded AI and tiny machine learning (TinyML) solutions for advanced non-visual sensing in automotive, industrial and commercial products.

Reality Analytics provides advanced signal processing math, delivering fast, efficient machine learning inference that fits on MCUs. Additionally, the company has experience with industrial anomaly detection and automotive sound recognition using AI-built sensors.

These technologies along with Renesas’ microprocessor and microcontroller portfolios will help developers to apply advanced machine learning and signal processing to complex problems.
