Quanergy Systems Inc. has introduced a new people counting lidar system that doubles the coverage compared to previous iterations.

The S3-2WSO lidar allows users to accurately monitor and control occupancy limits in public transportation and public venues while simultaneously protecting individual privacy. The lidar sensor includes a 100° horizontal field-of-view (FOV), allowing it to be mounted at a low height, which makes it applicable for spaces with low ceilings such as older buildings and public transportation areas like bus terminals and train platforms.

The people counter lidar fuses data from multiple sensors to seamlessly monitor openings up to 30 meters wide, such as entry/exit points for retail malls, stadiums and other large public spaces. The lidar can detect traffic patterns of people including lingering, single file, side by side, bi-directional, tailgating and more.

With 98% accuracy in both indoor and outdoor settings, the solid-state lidar has no moving parts and ensures immunity to vibration and provides more than 100,000 hours mean time between failures, or more than 10 years.

Quanergy said unlike cameras, the lidar solution does not capture or store any personal information, eliminating personally identifiable information (PII) risk and protecting traveler privacy.
