Toyota updates production line closures due to COVID-19

16 April 2020

Nearly all automotive OEMs have closed production due to the coronavirus pandemic and Toyota plans to make gradual adjustments in production operations to all of its plants starting on May 1.

Additionally, Toyota will halt production for two days — on May 1 and May 11 — and plans to reflect the operation days on alternative dates. In addition to non-operating days, Toyota will also reduce operation time from double shifts to single shifts beginning May 12 for some of the plants and production lines producing vehicles for overseas markets.

Toyota will suspend production for nine lines at five plants including:

  • Tsutsumi Plant production lines #1 and #3 will be suspended for four operating days from May 12 to May 15.
  • Tahara Plant will suspend its production line for five operating days from May 12 to May 18.
  • Toyota Motor East Japan production lines F201 and F301 at the Higashi-Fuji plant will be suspended for one operating day on May 12.
  • Toyota Motor East Japan’s production line #1 at Iwate Plant will be suspended for two days, from May 12 to May 13.
  • Hino, Hamura Plant production line #1 will be suspended for four operating days from May 12 to May 15.
  • Hino, Hamura Plant production lines #2 and #4 will be suspended for one operating day on May 12.

Reduction to single shift operations will take place in four production lines at three plants:

  • Tahara Plant’s production lines #1 and #3 will move to a single shift operation from May to June.
  • Hino, Hamura Plant's production line #1 will switch to single shift from May to June.
  • Gifu Auto Body Co.’s production line #2 will switch to single shift from May to June.
