Celebrate IEEE Day!

03 October 2017

Early October marks a special event for the community of electrical and electronics engineers. In the beginning of October 1884, representatives of these professions met for the first time to collaborate on ideas that leverage technology for the betterment of humanity as the American Institute of Electrical Engineers.

In 1963, this group merged with the Institute of Radio Engineers, founded in 1922, to form the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, or IEEE.

Now IEEE Day is officially celebrated on the first Tuesday in October, which is the 3rd of October this year. However, you can celebrate this eighth edition of the day between October 1 and October 17. IEEE Day’s theme is: “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow.” While the world benefits from what’s new, IEEE focuses on what’s next.

Members are urged to organize their own events with creative ideas and to submit these to the IEEE Day map.

The IEEE Day team is made up of student volunteers, young professionals and staff. Together, they work to ensure that this year's celebration will be even bigger and more impressive than the last editions. The principle task of the IEEE Day team is to initiate, motivate and coordinate events and efforts to celebrate this day worldwide.
