At Embedded World 2025, Renesas Electronics Corp. rolled out a new iteration of its RZ/V series that allows users to implement vision AI in a range of applications.
Called the RZ/V2N, the MPU has an integrated AI accelerator, dynamically reconfigurable processor (DRP)-A13 that has 10 tera operations per second per watt (TOPS/W) power efficiency and an AI inference performance of up to 15 TOPS.
Renesas said the MPU is smaller than the RZ/V2H processor while having similar features of other processors in the RZ/V series. The features allow for the suppression of heat, which helps eliminate the need for additional cooling fans and reduce the size and cost of embedded systems.
These features will allow users to implement vision AI in a range of applications like:
- AI cameras for traffic
- Congestion analysis in commercial facilities
- Industrial cameras for visual inspection on production lines
- Driver monitoring systems for behavior analysis.
Features
The RZ/V2N includes an ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores and a single Cortex-M33 core as well as an image signal processor, Arm Mali-C55 and two channels of MIPI camera interfaces.
According to Renesas, the two-camera system:
- Improves spatial recognition
- Enables more precise human motion line analysis
- Includes fall detection
- Captures images from different locations
The RZ/V2N also has two channels of MIPI camera interfaces, which allow two cameras to be connected to capture double-angle images. The two-camera system significantly improves spatial recognition performance compared to a single camera system and enables more precise human motion line analysis and fall detection. Furthermore, the dual-camera system captures images from different locations,
This could come in handy in an application that allows a single chip to count cars in a parking lot and can recognize license plates efficiently.
Embedded World 2025 takes place this week in Nuremberg, Germany.
