Semiconductor foundry SkyWater Technology has submitted a full application to the CHIPS Program Office of the U.S. Department of Commerce for funding through the CHIPS and Science Act.
The application is to modernize its equipment as well as upgrade its production at the company’s Minesota Department of Defense (DoD) Trusted chip manufacturing factory. SkyWater manufactures a range of semiconductors including mixed-signal CMOS, read-out ICs, rad-hard ICs, power management, MEMS, superconducting ICs, photonics, carbon nanotubes and interposers.
SkyWater said the goal is to expand its domestic microelectronics infrastructure that empowers commercial leaders a role in guiding the DoD’s efforts in Microelectronics development.
The company currently serves sectors including:
- Aerospace and defense
- Automotive
- Biomedical
- Internet of things
