Novelda has unveiled what it claims is the world’s lowest-power ultra-wideband (UWB) radar sensor designed to operate on batteries with a low power consumption of below 100 microwatts.
The company will demonstrate the UWB proximity sensor at the upcoming Sensors Converge Expo.
Offered in a small form factor, the UWB sensor features a complete sensor module with antennas and on-chip processing. Additionally, the sensor has a fully configurable detection zone allowing it to fit a specific requirement that is defined by the zone.
Novelda said it can be integrated behind materials such as plastics, tempered glass and ceramics. It can also be put into space-limited designs such as thin bezel integration.
The company said the sensor can detect breathing motion at 10 meters while extending battery life and reducing the overall carbon footprint by offering low power consumption for radar sensors.
"Our radar's ability to provide accurate angle and distance information to multiple targets while operating with energy-efficiency opens up a wide range of applications, enabling our customers to leverage this technology for energy savings, enhanced safety and innovation,” said Jan-Bjørnar Lund, CEO at Novelda. “This breakthrough achievement defines a new standard for energy-efficient radar technology."
Sensors Converge is taking place in Santa Clara, California, June 20-22.
