Particularly in the automotive industry, extremely high demands are placed on product quality, whether it be in terms of visual appearance or with respect to adherence to production tolerances. A high degree of production automation requires precise sensors to be used from car body construction to final assembly. Micro-Epsilon’s instrumentation portfolio provides innovative solutions for measuring distance, thickness, color, temperature and surfaces in almost every stage of the process.
In fully automated processing, a large number of sensors is required for monitoring and control tasks. Due to the increasing requirements for process stability, production reliability and quality, ever increasing precision and data rates are necessary.
Sensors from Micro-Epsilon ensure that data is acquired in real-time and can be used for the respective application. From the pressing plant to assembly and quality assurance, sensors are used in process control, monitoring of supplier parts and in final inspection, while optimizing the production process.
Application examples
Color control of attachments
Vehicle attachments such as bumpers, door handles or exterior mirrors are usually painted separately but must have the same color as the car since the human eye perceives even the smallest of color deviations. True Color sensors are suitable for any application that involves color sorting or the inspection of the color homogeneity.
Gap measurement of car body parts
When assembling a vehicle, numerous gap and flushness measurements are necessary inside and outside. scanCONTROL sensors evaluate these measurement values and send a signal to the control system if the values measured lie within the tolerances defined by the customer. The strengths of the scanCONTROL laser scanner include its compact design with integrated electronics, which makes it suitable for use with robots.
Determination of the brake disc thickness
During production, compliance with thickness and runout tolerances of the blank brake disc are inspected after mechanical processing. Also, in test bench and road tests, brake disc thickness is regularly monitored.
For reliable and high-precision determination of brake disc thickness, the capaNCDT DTV capacitive displacement measuring system is used. It provides high resolutions and determines deviations in the micrometer range.
