Semiconductor and IP vendor Rambus Inc. has acquired Smart Card Software Ltd. in an effort to bolster its cryptography research division. As part of the acquisition, valued at about $92.2 million, Rambus will also get the Bell Identification Ltd. and Ecebs Ltd. subsidiaries. These two subsidiaries are important to Rambus as Bell ID has a secure mobile payment platform and Ecebs has a smart ticketing platform both crucial features in Internet security.
Rambus senior VP and GM of the cryptography research division says in a statement, mobile payments and smart ticketing are big market growth opportunities and will allow Rambus “to leverage our foundational security technology to offer differentiated, value-added security solutions.”
Bell ID’s mobile payment technology supports cloud-based services using host card emulation (HCE), EMVCo tokenization (TSP), trusted services management (TSM) for SIM-based projects and embedded secure element solutions. Meanwhile, Ecebs smart ticking systems meets the growing demand for cloud-based, secure ticketing schemes, which can open up lower cost smart ticketing to a wider market, Rambus says.
Rambus says both of these technologies will help to expand its cryptography research portfolio of secure provisioning and management products.
