Under a new strategic agreement, electric vehicle (EV) charging solution house Kempower will use silicon carbide (SiC)-based power semiconductors from Onsemi for scalable EV chargers.

Kempower’s suite of EV charging solutions will be using a variety of electronic components from Onsemi, specifically its EliteSiC MOSFETs and diodes. The devices will be used in the active AC-DC front-end and in the primary and secondary DC-DC converters.

The power semiconductors will give the EV chargers:

  • Low on resistance
  • Minimal gate and output capacitance
  • Increased system efficiency
  • Reduced end system size

Overall, these lead to higher power density and better reliability for Kempower’s EV charging solutions, the companies said.

The EV chargers from Kempower are cloud-connected and scalable, allowing fleet and charging point operators to scale systems with demand and flexibility.
