Today’s applications require embedded computing platforms with excellent performance-per-watt and superior performance-per-cost ratios. This is especially true for markets with fierce competition and high cost pressures, like medical imaging and patient bedside terminals, gaming systems ranging from video lottery terminals to high-end slot machines, as well as immersive digital signage installations and shopping kiosks to name just a few. And since next-gen applications must consolidate more functionality on one platform, like added IoT gateways, AI instances and inter-machine communication, a high core count with virtualization support is also demanded.
