Dongbu HiTek Growing in the Chinese Fabless Market

30 May 2013

Korean foundry services provider Dongbu HiTek has announced the opening of sales and marketing offices in Shanghai and Beijing, China. The rapidly growing Chinese market is key to Dongbu HiTek’s expansion in the foundry business, the company said.

“Our sales momentum in China has been building steadily over the past few years fueled largely by demand from fabless Chinese companies in need of our specialized foundry services,” said Jae Song, Dongbu HiTek executive vice president of marketing. The company aims to increase its annual foundry sales to China from 8 percent of total sales in 2012 to 13 percent in 2013, focusing on chips for smart phones, tablet PCs, laptops and TVs.

Sales revenue generated by Chinese fabless companies is forecast to grow from approximately $8.2 billion in 2013 to about $12.4 billion in 2016, according to IHS. By establishing offices in mainland China, Dongbu HiTek expects to strengthen its relationships with current Chinese customers by providing a more responsive onsite customer service.

The Korean company also expects to capture a greater share of the mushrooming sales of foundry services to Chinese fabless companies, particularly those developing ICs for smart phones and other consumer products.

Dongbu HiTek Co., Ltd. specializes in analog and mixed-signal processing technologies. It has offices in the U.S., Taiwan, Japan, the United Kingdom and Italy.
