Deploy HetNets as Fast and Cheap as Wi-Fi

04 November 2015

Parallel Wireless, Inc. has unveiled commercially ready 3GPP-compliant end-to-end virtualized RAN reference designs based on collaboration with Intel. The innovative designs integrate 3G, 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, real-time network orchestration and resource optimization so that mobile operators can cost-effectively deploy multi-technology HetNets.

The company’s Converged Wireless System (CWS) base station includes the Intel Transcede T3150 dual-mode SoC and the reference design combines 3G, 4G/LTE and Wi-Fi and their functions into a single footprint with common network connectivity, power and backhaul. According to Parallel, mobile operators benefit by reducing CAPEX/OPEX and the complexity of supporting increased capacity on their networks. The technology is designed to also provide seamless connectivity for the mobile users and make use of the available spectrum.

The reference design includes Radisys’ Femtotality 3G small-cell solution, a 3G-software stack to deliver 3G RAN hardware functionality on CWS and 3G VNFs for the HNG.

The collaboration between Intel and Parallel Wireless has enabled the development of a deployment-ready 3G/4G solution on accelerated timeline and positions and further collaboration on multi-RAT solutions, licensed and unlicensed such as LTE-AAA and Wi-Fi.
