Correct microLED display uniformity to improve quality and production yield

26 April 2021

Radiant Vision Systems specializes in optical test and measurement solutions to enable new display innovations. Radiant solutions ensure quality of displays by applying high-resolution photometric imaging, software and patented image analysis methods for advanced pixel-level measurement and uniformity correction, helping manufacturers like Jasper Display Corporation (featured in this video) optimize the quality of their display designs.

All microLED displays exhibit inconsistencies from pixel to pixel (LED to LED), requiring uniformity correction to ensure visual quality. In microLED correction processes, a Radiant ProMetric Imaging Photometer and Microscope Lens are used to measure the luminance and uniformity of each individual microLED subpixel in a display. First, the Radiant camera captures a high-resolution image of the microdisplay to evaluate each microLED pixel in detail. A modulation controller illuminates the microLED pixels in patterns to collect luminance data using a built-in measurement sequence from Radiant, part of a complete display correction – or “demura” – solution developed by Radiant for uniformity correction of emissive displays. Differences in luminance from pixel to pixel are used to calculate correction values, which are applied by the controller to adjust each microLED pixel’s luminance to a target output. The result is a display that has a completely uniform appearance at all brightness levels.

Correction safeguards a manufacturer’s investment in the production of microLED displays by optimizing resources that may otherwise fall outside of quality tolerances. MicroLED manufacturers choose Radiant for high-resolution imaging, automated photometric analysis capability and global support to improve the visual quality of emerging technologies like microLEDs. Radiant’s advanced pixel measurement and uniformity correction (demura) solution helps manufacturers achieve their goals for efficient microLED display development while ensuring visually perfect display quality.

In this video, you will learn about:

  • Uniformity challenges in emissive displays like microLED, miniLED and OLED
  • The impact of pixel-level measurement and uniformity correction (demura) on display quality and production efficiency
  • How Radiant’s high-resolution ProMetric imaging systems and software are applied for rapid and accurate demura of microLED microdisplays, like those produced with Jasper Display’s technology
