Demo: Ensuring display quality in AR/VR headsets
Evaluating the visual quality of displays that are viewed through augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets or smart glasses requires testing from the vantage point of the user. The human pupil size, position and field of view inside the headset determines the exact viewing experience, impacting the perceived quality of the integrated AR or VR display in terms of brightness, clarity, focus, color, aberration, defects and more. Traditional display test systems do not incorporate design considerations for replicating the human eye’s view at the viewing distances and optical constraints of head-mounted display devices. For this reason, they are unable to evaluate all qualities of the display that may be visible to the wearer.
Specially designed for display test and measurement in AR/VR headsets, the Radiant Vision Systems AR/VR Lens has aperture characteristics that simulate the approximate size, position and field of view of the human eye within an enclosed headset or transparent glasses. Radiant provides a comprehensive hardware/software solution designed to replicate viewing parameters within AR/VR headsets for the most accurate and efficient evaluation of displays and projections. In this video, Jessy Hosken from Radiant demonstrates how a high-resolution ProMetric Imaging Colorimeter paired with the unique AR/VR Lens and TT-ARVR Software enables rapid, automated visual inspection of displays within AR/VR headsets. Using this solution, all visual display characteristics can be tested simultaneously in a single image capturing up to 120° H by 80° V field of view from the eye position for comprehensive R&D or production test applications.
In this video, you will learn about:
- Radiant’s complete solution for in-headset AR/VR display testing
- TT-ARVR software test suite for visual display inspection based on brightness, color, contrast, MTF, focus uniformity, distortion, field of view and more
- Using the unique AR/VR Lens to replicate the size, position and field of view of the human pupil within headsets and smart glasses
Part of the Radiant Vision Systems TrueTest Software family, TT-ARVR Software provides all of the benefits of TrueTest Software to efficiently perform light, color and dimensional measurements with specific tests to evaluate the quality of displays integrated into AR, VR and MR (mixed reality) devices and headsets. A comprehensive AR/VR display test solution from Radiant combines the TT-ARVR application-specific software, a ProMetric Imaging Colorimeter or Photometer and the Radiant AR/VR lens to perform rapid, automated visual inspection of AR/VR displays.
