Video: Smart Outlet Uses Existing Wiring to Turn Any House into a Smart Home

01 August 2017

Swidget is a new power outlet gadget that uses a home’s existing wiring to provide a suite of inserts that turn any house into a smart home.

Swidget plugs into standard outlets and in the center of the outlet is an interchangeable insert in order to either clean up existing technology, expand a current smart home or enable new home automation. The inserts include anything from a nightlight or a USB charger, or it can enable connectivity such as WiFi, Z-Wave or Zigbee. It can also connect to an existing array of smart home products.

Other inserts include a motion sensor, Bluetooth speaker, temperature or humidity sensor, Alexa repeater, video camera, emergency light, wireless booster, aromatherapy insert, white noise speaker or carbon monoxide sensor.

Swidget has started a Kickstarter campaign in order to complete formal regulatory testing and finalize the production of the gadget. While the campaign has already met its goal, you can still be part of it by visiting Kickstarter.
