Ampleon has formed its global business operations following the successful acquisition of the RF Power business line by Jianguang Asset Management Co. Ltd from NXP Semiconductors. The formation of Ampleon followed the completion of the merger between NXP and Freescale Semiconductor Ltd., in an $11.8 billion deal.
NXP originally announced in May it would sell its RF power business line to Chinese company Jianguang Asset Management for $1.8 billion, in a move to avoid competition issues. The closing of the sale was seen as a crucial step in order to meet regulatory approval for the NXP-Freescale merger. As a result of the deal, Ampleon will have access to NXP’s full RF Power business, including sales and support of the complete line-up of LDMOS and GaN RF power products.
Reinier Beltman, a former NXP executive who will be CEO of Ampleon, says in a statement, “With a unique focus on RF power technology and innovation we are extremely well positioned to meet the growing market need for power, cost and space efficient RF solutions. RF energy applications will see us establishing new partnerships and introduce new products as we embrace these exciting developments across the value chain.”
Ampleon will seek to leverage the growing opportunities of data and energy transfer in RF by increasing its commitment to R&D and growing its engineering resources. The company will have more than 1,250 employees worldwide.
