At Embedded World 2025, Bosch Sensortec unveiled PurpleAir Pixel, a USB-powered, portable air quality monitor.

The device is powered by Bosch’s BMV080 particulate matter sensors that the company claims are 450 times smaller than traditional PM sensors. The PurpleAir Pixel is noiseless and can deliver real-time air quality data for actionable insights, Bosch said.

Other features of the USB device include:

  • Plug-and-play functionality
  • Compact and portable
  • Live air quality feedback
  • Built-in multi-color LED display

Why it’s needed

Bosch said this device is important with 99% of the population breathing air that fails to meet health standards.

PM1 PM2.5 and PM10 particulates are small enough to penetrate the lungs and impact human health. Inside, these can be 100 times more concentrated than acceptable limits, the company said. This happens during cooking or other daily activities.

Most air quality solutions are focused on outdoor air and do not address real-time exposure indoors.

Embedded World 2025 takes place this week in Nuremberg, Germany.
