Video: Flushing for better healthcare monitoring

18 December 2024

A smart toilet may not be the first idea one would think of when searching for a way to monitor biological activities, but technological innovations have enabled this very possibility.

These toilets use sensors, cameras and machine learning to analyze biological markers to track healthcare factors like hydration and fiber intake. Smart toilets could potentially move beyond these basic factors into more advanced monitoring of conditions like:

  • Colorectal or urological cancers
  • Kidney failure
  • Providing data for doctors

Global electronic distributor Mouser examines the potential of diagnostic and health metrics with early prototypes of smart toilets using machine vision with traditional reagent-based tests. Regular monitoring could help catch early signs of a wide variety of issues leading to better and earlier treatment.
