Comprehensive automotive testing is crucial for chipset developers, electronic control unit suppliers, vehicle manufacturers and certification bodies to ensure faultless performance, particularly in safety-critical applications. At Automotive Testing Expo Europe 2023 in Stuttgart, Germany, Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate a wide range of cutting-edge test solutions that support automotive applications. With test solutions on show that cover automotive radar, Ethernet, 5G and ultra-wideband (UWB), the company enables the automotive industry to make the next level of autonomous driving reality.
Automotive radar interference testing
The R&S ATS1500C antenna test chamber is a compact antenna test range (CATR) for testing of automotive radar sensor under far field conditions. When combined with the R&S AREG800A automotive radar echo generator and a R&S SMW200A vector signal generator, it can be used for a variety of automotive radar sensor relevant applications, including antenna characterization, functional radar validation, interference testing, ETSI RED and FCC in-band pre-compliance testing and angle of arrival calibration. The system is the complete solution for all necessary radio frequency (RF) test prior to automotive radar sensor mass production.
UWB test solutions
Rohde & Schwarz supports the further development of an open and standardized UWB ecosystem for automotive applications. UWB is suitable for vehicle access and start control, sharing digital car keys, handsfree payment, indoor navigation and parking assistance. Testing the performance of UWB modules and devices is important in the lab and on the production line to ensure compatibility and correct operation. In combination with Rohde & Schwarz shielded chambers, the R&S CMP200 radio communication tester offers a complete solution for transmitter, receiver, time of flight (ToF) and angle of arrival (AoA) measurements in conducted and radiated mode, compliant with IEEE 802.15.4a/z specifications and able to conduct UWB FiRa Consortium certification measurements.
5G TCU development
The R&S CMX500 one-box radio communications tester provides high-performance 5G automotive measurements with comprehensive test coverage including RF, protocol and application testing. It covers the entire integration cycle from chipsets to telematics control units (TCUs) and complete vehicles. The R&S CMX500 provides extensive testing capability, supporting all 5G NR deployments covering LTE, 5G NR FR1 and also FR2 in non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) mode, with an effortless setup and outstanding performance. The 5G tester reaches its market-leading high performance with its ability to handle data rates of 10 Gbps and beyond.
10BASE-T1S automotive Ethernet compliance
Developments in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and high-powered entertainment applications are driving up automotive data rates. As they grow, it becomes increasingly important to ensure the quality and performance of the cables and components of the communication channel. Automotive Ethernet is a key enabler for high data rate applications, as well as for data backbone, connecting different domain controllers. The R&S RTO6 oscilloscope from Rohde & Schwarz enables compliance testing on the next evolution of the automotive Ethernet standard up to MultiGigBASE-T1.
Radome and bumper material analysis
Together with its partner Löhnert Elektronik, Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate a fully automated turnkey solution for bumper production radar transparency testing based on the successful R&S QAR50. The lightweight and compact setup of the R&S QAR50-R facilitates precise positioning of the measurement antennas, allowing faster, more accurate and convenient testing. Due to its design, it reaches positions that could hardly be handled with other available test systems. This leads to higher throughput and yields as well as more flexibility to adapt to different devices under test, for end-of-line measurements of bumpers and other exterior parts.
The Rohde & Schwarz team and their showcased demonstrations can be found in Hall 10, booth 1552 during June 13 through June 15.
