Air taxi vendor Volocopter and transportation IT provider SITA are collaborating on developing digital and IT systems for vertiports — electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft platforms.
Additionally, SITA has become an investor in Volocopter in its latest funding round.
The idea of vertiports is to provide a launching platform for electric air taxis that will operate routes in congested cities to offer an alternative to commute and transportation methods. Flights would be hailed via vertiports and flown to other parts of the city or other cities, landing at another vertiport.
The partnership will help shape the infrastructure for these vertiports by deploying new operating standards and a digital-first passenger experience, SITA said. The company provides IT for the vertiport like:
- Airport management and operations
- Passenger operations
- Flight and aircraft operations
- Baggage processing
- Border management
The IT infrastructure will be combined with VoloIQ, Volocopter’s integrated cloud-based air taxi ecosystem that is a digital operating system for end-to-end passenger air transportation experiences.
