New dual-directional coupler covers ultra-broadband frequency range of 1 to 65 GHz with 13 dB coupling

28 September 2022

Ultra-broadband microwave component and test equipment manufacturer KRYTAR Inc. continues the expansion of its line of dual-directional couplers with the addition of a new model offering 13 dB of coupling over the ultra-broadband frequency range of 1 GHz to 65 GHz (L through V-Bands), in a single, compact and lightweight package.

Model 501065013 is a multi-purpose, stripline design that exhibits excellent coupling over the ultra-broadband frequency of 1.0 GHz to 65.0 GHz. KRYTAR coaxial dual-directional couplers are four-port couplers that are the combination of two three-port couplers having their main lines cascaded. This dual-directional design, two back-to-back couplers in the same package, lets the user monitor forward and reflected power. Typical applications include power sampling and measurement, amplifier leveling, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) monitoring, field control, and amplifier and load protection.

KRYTAR couplers offer solutions for many ultra-broadband applications including electronic warfare, commercial wireless including mmWave, 5G, SATCOM, radar, signal monitoring and measurement, antenna beam forming, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing environments.

In addition, Model 501065013 offers superior performance ratings including nominal coupling (with respect to output) of 13 dB, ±2.0 dB and frequency sensitivity of ±1.5 dB (from 1 GHz to 50 GHz) and ±2.5 dB (from 1 GHz to 65 GHz). The dual-directional coupler exhibits insertion loss (including coupled power) of less than 6.5 dB, directivity of greater than 10 dB (from 1 GHz to 50 GHz) and 7 dB (from 50 GHz to 65 GHz), maximum VSWR (any port) of 1.8 dB, and input power rating of 20 W average and 3 kW peak.

The directional coupler comes with industry-standard 1.85 mm female connectors. The compact package measures just 5.0 inches (L) x 0.50 inches (W) x 0.65 inches (H), and weighs just 3.9 ounces. Operating temperature is -54° C to 85° C. The dual-directional coupler can also be manufactured to meet ridged military specifications.
