Velodyne Lidar Inc. has launched a new sensor equipped with micro-lidar array architecture for an ultra-wide field of view (FoV) and higher resolution.
Called Velabit, the lidar can be used in multiple industries and applications including:
- Automotive and new mobility
- Autonomous mobile robots
- Industrial machines and warehouses
- Infrastructure and smart cities
- Sidewalk and last mile delivery
- Drone mapping and navigation
Velabit is a solid-state sensor that achieves a maximum horizontal FoV of 90° and a maximum vertical FoV of 70°. Velodyne said this is three times more points per second than previous generations.
The lidar can be used in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for self-driving cars including blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic detection and pedestrian automatic emergency braking (PAEB).
