Ericsson and Xtreme Enterprises have formed a partnership to assist wireless internet service providers (WISPs) to deliver high speed wireless services to unserved and underserved broadband market providers in rural areas of the U.S.

In many parts of the U.S., high speed wireless internet and broadband are hard to find. Service is generally nonexistent, and existing service does not reflect peak speeds compared to urban areas. Under the agreement, Ericsson will incorporate its radio system into Xtreme’s network solution and service portfolio, allowing WISPs to reach more customers with higher speeds.

Xtreme focuses on assisting WISPs and broadband vendors with obtaining and deploying carrier-class LTE equipment.

The agreement will offer Ericsson’s micro radio 2208 for Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) for allowable power output for outdoor deployments.

In addition to working with rural providers for LTE, Ericsson is delivering equipment for small telecoms in rural areas to provide a path toward deploying 5G in the near future.
