On Semiconductor to acquire Globalfoundries’ 300 mm fab in New York

23 April 2019

On Semiconductor Corp. has signed an agreement to acquire the East Fishkill, New York, 300 mm fab from Globalfoundries.

For On Semiconductor, the agreement will increase its 300 mm production capacity over the next several years. Globalfoundries will continue to manufacture 300 mm wafers for On Semiconductor until the end of 2022 with initial 300 mm wafer production for On Semiconductor set to begin in 2020.

Globalfoundries said it will transition numerous technologies to the company’s other three 300 mm sites.

On Semiconductor has agreed to pay $430 million for the facility, $100 million of which will be paid at signing and $330 million paid at the end of 2022. After 2022, On Semiconductor will gain full operational control of the fab and the site’s employees will transition to On Semiconductor.

In addition to 300 mm wafer access, On Semiconductor will have access to complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) capabilities including 45 nm and 65 nm technology nodes. On Semiconductor said the acquisition will add capacity for its power and analog products as well as form the basis of future technology development for the next few years.
