Mobile World Congress 2019: Skyworks and Intel team for 5G communication engines

26 February 2019

Skyworks Solutions Inc. and Intel Corp. are working together on 5G communications engines for an array of end markets.

The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress 2019 taking place Feb. 25-28 in Barcelona, Spain.

The initial modem-to-antenna products will support LTE and 5G architectures for mobile, wearable, automotive, M2M, tablet/PC, smart home and internet of things (IoT) applications. The combination of devices — that will leverage Intel’s modem experience and Skywork’s connectivity portfolio — will provide devices with higher data rates, enhanced power efficiency and new product footprint.

The 5G platform will leverage Intel’s Smarti single-chip transceiver and Skyworks’ Sky5 suite to support 5G, LTE, GPS and Wi-Fi across mobile and IoT markets in a variety of tiers and market verticals.

Samples of the combination devices are expected to ship in the second half of 2019 with commercial devices expected in the first half of 2020.
