Signify, formerly Philips Lighting, has introduced a new light emitting diode (LED) bulb designed to enhance eye comfort by reducing glare by up to 35 percent.

The design of the bulbs is inspired by the pattern of sunflower seeds and uses interlaced optics that diffuse and reflect light to reduce glare, Signify said. The bulbs instead offer a uniform light that is comfortable to the eye as the optics are imprinted onto lamps increasing the light beam angle, so wider areas of the home can be lit more uniformly, the company said.

The LED lamps save up to 60 percent of energy compared with a compact fluorescent lamp, which not only helps families with energy savings but helps with providing a properly lit environment for tasks that require focus such as studying, reading or writing.

The MyCare bulb will be first launched in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea and Singapore this month with a global rollout expected to begin in 2019.
