Israel-based Innoviz Technologies is teaming with Chinese automotive electronic products vendor HiRain Technologies to bring Innoviz’s LiDAR and computer vision technology to HiRain’s sales channels.
LiDAR is seen as a key component of autonomous driving, and Innoviz said its computer vision software stack and algorithms turn 3D vision into critical driving insights.
Innoviz’s LiDAR solution uses a microelectromechanical system (MEMS)-based design for automotive standards for safety, performance and reliability. Inside of HiRain’s autonomous driving system, customers can access long-range scanning and object detection capabilities for self-driving vehicles. LiDAR enables self-driving cars to sense their surroundings with accuracy at long distances in varying weather and light conditions.
"China is helping lead the way towards the autonomous vehicle future, and HiRain is one of the most influential companies in the Chinese automotive industry,” said Omer Keilaf, CEO of Innoviz. “Last year, around 26 million vehicles were manufactured in China, making it by far the largest automotive manufacturing country in the world.”
The expansion into the Chinese market follows Innoviz’s LiDAR and computer vision software recently being selected by BMW for a series of production vehicles starting in 2021.
