Signify, formerly Philips Lighting, has released a new free app that allows users to synchronize Philips Hue lights with games, videos and music played on a computer.
Philips Hue Sync runs with the Philips Hue app, works on Windows or Mac computers, and the lights mimic what is happening on the screen. For example, if you are watching a sunset in a movie, the room is bathed in violet, orange and yellow hues.
Signify said it has collaborated with Disney Music Group to show how the Philips Hue Sync works with music groups with Disney’s a cappella singing group DCappella. As part of the collaboration, fans of the group can see a new video in a 360-degree experience with lighting that matches the music.
The app’s control panel is designed for everyday use and, after a selection of the mode audio, video or gaming is made, the lights sync to the entertainment content on a computer with one press of a button.
Because the lighting doesn’t always need the same level of immersion on every occasion, the app can be customized for the brightness level of the lights as well as how often the lights change in appearance. This can either be subtle lighting to high intensity lighting. There are also color palettes that go with different genres of music.
