Mission Statement

Welcome to Electronics360. We are a new online publication launched in February 2013 covering the business and technology of electronics as it impacts myriad industries across the global economy. Our mission is to provide content that helps our readers peer over the horizon, understand consequences and connections, and above all manage risk. We write for strategic planners, product designers, procurement and supply chain professionals. That is, decision makers. We tackle big complex strategic topics as well as tactical issues.

How can we do all of this? We have recruited a small army of the best business and technology journalists in the business, many with long memories from decades in the trenches. They are fiercely committed to their craft. Check out the list of contributors below.

Bryan DeLuca is the Director of Content and Publishing for IEEE GlobalSpec and is responsible for content direction for Electronics360. Prior to joining IEEE GlobalSpec, Bryan worked in the electronics and engineering industries in both domestic and international media. He also has created a range of industry-wide products. Bryan holds a BA from Hofstra University.
Nicolette Emmino

Nicolette Emmino is a technology writer and word lover with a background in broadcast journalism and previous experience in the engineering space. She aims to find the very latest technological developments and keep the masses informed on recent innovative breakthroughs and consumer electronics, as well as create novel content and video geared toward Millennials and the budding popularity of “maker culture” and do-it-yourself philosophies and projects.
Daniel Franklin

Dan Franklin is an electrical engineer at IEEE GlobalSpec with over 20 years of industry experience. After working as an engineer for Energizer Batteries, he spent time designing medical electronics and equipment. A long-time tinkerer, Dan has been building, designing and fixing things since he was a kid. Amongst many other tools, Dan owns a 3-D printer that he uses to design parts.
Abe Michelen

Abe writes for IEEE GlobalSpec Electronics360 about advanced semiconductor developments and nanotechnology including a regular column about developments in academia. He is a professor in electrical engineering at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York, where he teaches courses on semiconductor manufacturing, nanotechnology and analog and digital electronics. In addition, he is principle investigator at the Northeast Advanced Technological Education Center where in 2010 he was awarded a National Science Foundation grant to create an Advanced Technological Education center for nanotechnology and semiconductor education for New York and Western New England. Abe is senior engineer at IEEE GlobalSpec, where he manages databases of electronics, semiconductor, photovoltaic and software products.
Peter Brown
Silicon Valley
Peter has nearly 20 years of experience reporting and writing about the electronics industry including semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing, consumer electronics, power and energy, MEMS and sensors and mobile devices. He previously worked for IHS Technology as Senior Manager for Marketing and Communication, where he wrote, edited and designed the weekly Market Watch newsletter as well as press releases on the latest IHS analytical reports. Prior to IHS, Peter held numerous positions at Electronic News including senior editor and managing editor, where he won gold and silver awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) for both writing and design.
Siobhan Treacy

Siobhan Treacy works for IEEE GlobalSpec as Editor and provides editorial content for both 360 sites. She recently completed her BA in English at The College of Saint Rose. During her time at Saint Rose, she completed multiple editorial internships where she was responsible for developing editorial content, press releases, and social media posts. In addition to content generation, Siobhan works with Custom Media to produce client content.
Tony Pallone

Tony Pallone comes to us from a background as an art director/designer and writer for the Times Union, the largest daily newspaper in Albany. There aren’t a lot of things that don’t interest him, and he has written about the visual and performing arts, travel, and a host of other topics. He’s a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, which is known for its strong engineering program; he trusts that you won’t hold it against him for getting his degree in political science. He also has a background as an educator in a wide range of contexts. As if that’s not enough, Tony is an award-winning stage actor and director, and is often liable to hand you a flier for some show he’s appearing in (just humor him).

Carolyn Mathas is a technology writer/editor for a number of industry publications. Previously, she was a Senior Editor at Lightwave Magazine and a West Coast correspondent for CleanRooms Magazine.Carolyn holds an MBA from New York Institute of Technology and a BS in Marketing from University of Phoenix. In addition to editorial, her professional experience includes Director of Marketing positions at Securealink and Micrium and PR/marketing services to such companies as Philips Semiconductors, Altera, Boulder Creek Engineering and Lucent Technologies. An avid traveler, writer and reader, Mathas lives in Northern California.

Trained as an engineer, Murray Slovick has more than 20 years of experience as chief editor of award-winning publications covering various aspects of electronics and semiconductor technology. He most recently was Editorial Director at Hearst Business Media where he was responsible for the online and print content of Electronic Products, Electronic Engineers Master and Semiconductor Applications, among other properties in the U.S. and China. Previously he served as Executive Editor at CMP's eeProductCenter and he also spent a decade as editor-in-chief of the IEEE flagship publication.
Bill Schweber

Bill Schweber is an electronics engineer who has written three textbooks on electronic communications systems, as well as hundreds of technical articles, opinion columns and product features. He has managed a number of technical websites for EE Times and was both the Executive Editor and Analog Editor for EDN. Bill has written and presented online courses on a variety of engineering topics. In addition, he has worked in marketing communications for Analog Devices, Inc., an analog and mixed-signal semiconductor company, and was associate editor of ADI’s respected technical journal. Bill has an MSEE from the University of Massachusetts and a BSEE from Columbia University. He’s a Registered Professional Engineer, and holds an Advanced Class amateur radio license.

And for more than 20 years, Steve has been writing and teaching seminars on economics and cost-justification of capital expenditures for engineers and managers.
