Video: Constructing the Future of LA with Augmented Reality

11 September 2017

With the next evolution of Mouser Electronics’ Empowering Innovative Together™ series, Mouser and Grant Imahara team up with the creative minds at WIRED Brand Lab to take a look at the modern city. Sponsored this year by our technology partners Analog Devices, Intel, Microchip, and Molex, we’re traveling the world to see and learn from the innovators and progressive companies creating a more livable future for our cities.

This month Grant travels to Los Angeles, California to visit with the engineers at Daqri, an augmented reality hardware and software company that is creating technology that has the potential to transform workers and elevate their skill levels.

Daqri has created an augmented reality helmet that has the ability to overlay a geo-spatially located model of a building onto a construction site to show workers where to add wiring, plumbing, and structural supports. This is just one of the many fascinating applications for this technology.

Be sure to check out our previous videos. Grant visited Porto Portugal and meet with Veniam, a local company that is transforming the city into a Wi-Fi mesh network comprised of mobile hotspots.

Then he went to Tokyo, Japan to look at Mirai a company based inside a repurposed former semiconductor fabrication factory that is growing new ideas inside the world's largest indoor farm.

Throughout this series, we have asked insightful questions: How can technology make our hectic lives better, and what solutions will it provide to the everyday problems today’s ever-growing cities face? Across the globe, there are many innovators hard at work already employing technology to create smarter cities that are more efficient, less polluted and more sustainable.

In our next and final video of the series, Grant will head back to Wires Brand Labs to take inventory of everything we have learned so far on our journey.

What an awesome way to make ordinary things like wiring, plumbing and town planning look amazing. I would also imagine a serious upside to this would be that humans could be trained on the job and would need minimal supervision to carry out seriously complex tasks. Though I do imagine the excuse "but my headset told me to" being used to cover what should be obvious errors! I currently produce 360 videos in the UK www.omniviewer360.com and would love to help this technology develop in my hometown; Bristol!
