Chipmaker Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has entered into an agreement with Precise Biometrics to license its fingerprint recognition technology.
The licensing agreement includes Precise’s BioMatch Mobile and BioMatch Embedded technology as well as support and software for these fingerprint technologies. Cypress will integrate the technology into its mobile and embedded semiconductors.
Hassane El-Khoury, executive VP of the Programmable Solutions Division at Cypress, says in a statement that fingerprint biometrics for user authentication on smartphones and tablets “is becoming increasingly important as users expand the amount of personal and financial data stored on their devices.”
The BioMatch Mobile provides fingerprint recognition for smartphones and tablets and works with small touch sensors through a hybrid algorithm. The software offers fast, accurate and secure verification of a user’s identity to create a convenient way to unlock a mobile device or for authenticating to services, Precise says. BioMatch Embedded offers integration of fingerprint matching functionality for numerous other environments and applications outside the mobile space.
