Altera Corp. and intellectual property (IP) partner Eutecus have made available a single-chip video analytics platform said to boost the capabilities of so-called "smart cities."
The ReCo-Pro Multi-Channel High-Definition (HD) video analytics platform uses Eutecus’ multi-core video analytics engine (MVE) technology, Altera’s Cyclone V system on a chip (SoC) and Enpirion PowerSoC devices. The product extends the capabilities of smart cities, allowing for greater operational awareness, effectiveness and security, according to Altera.
The two companies have already secured a design win from Sensity Systems, which plans to add the ReCo platform to its light sensory network (LSN), which is currently being installed in several U.S. metropolitan areas, Altera said. Sensity’s multiservice NetSense platform allows industrial lighting owners and operators to reduce energy costs by offering networked services for smart cities, including environmental and weather monitoring, parking management, retail analytics and enhanced public safety.
Dan McNamara, vice president of the Industrial, Automotive and Broadcast business unit at Altera, said in a statement that the video analytics product for smart cities contains the necessary processing power for “a broad range of emerging Internet of Things (IoT) applications.”
