“What could possibly go wrong with an Old Fashioned?”
That’s a favorite line of mine from the 1963 comic extravaganza "It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," which is said by Jim Backus as a pilot who’s left the controls of his airplane in the hands of two buffoons while he goes off to mix some drinks. Of course, things do go wrong — terribly wrong — but my guess is that most Old Fashioned aficionados don’t have these kinds of problems. They might, however, be happy to know that a new machine debuting at CES 2018 is designed to solve a more common, down-to-earth complaint: the ice never fails to water down the drink.
Enter Beyond Zero, which has hit upon a way to turn liquor and wine into ice cubes with a sleek-looking device controlled by an intuitive touch-screen. The machine uses under 100 watts of power and works in a matter of minutes. It requires no chemical additives, and it even opens up new creative cocktail possibilities through the use of color, spirit combinations and more.
If you’re attending CES 2018 this week and decide that it’s high time to hit the bar, you might want to swing by booth 53060 in Eureka Park for a live demonstration. The company, based in Louisville, Kentucky, is currently seeking distributors, partners, investors and strategic alliances.
Although the initial focus is on alcohol, Beyond Zero says that its future plans include the launch of ice machines designed to tackle issues of water waste and high energy consumption.
Pretty cool, no?
