Source: NASAOn October 11, 2000, NASA launched the space shuttle Discovery and STS-92 launched from the Kennedy Space Center, making the 100th flight of the space shuttle program. The first space shuttle mission launched in April of 1981 and over the following 30 years, the program launched five spacecrafts carrying people into orbit. The space shuttle program had launched, recovered and repaired satellites, conducted cutting-edge research and built the largest structure in space, the International Space Station, over the 30 years since the first launch.
